Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy Last updated: on 2 May 2023

Please take a minute or two. Below are trail markers to check your route through this site. In case you are lost, you are at https:\\twinniebrooks.com.

Privacy is important, and we don’t want yours to go astray. TwinnieBrooks.com respects and is committed to demonstrating our commitment to valuing your privacy. Hence …our Privacy Policy. It is described in better detail below as to how information is gathered on this website. It explains privacy practices when you contact Twinniebrooks.com via email, subscriptions, social media pages, links, or comments.

If you click on links that take you offsite and into a National Park (website) or a different website that was a location in our story (for example say The Palace Hotel in San Francisco) or social media, you now have traveled to an area that has a different privacy policy and terms of use, read them. It is always good to know where you are going.

Rules of the Road: Generally, any information we gather on this website is strictly for our use. The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with the website. This allows us to send you the newsletter or update you with major news, (say when a new book is released or a meet and greet before we travel). Your information is not willingly shared with any other entity (public or private), for any reason (unless lawfully required to do so* or as explained below for the functionality of the website). We will never sell or give away any lists or other data we retain. Ever. We do not purchase such information from other sources. Ever. We like to travel simply and unencumbered. We don’t want anyone else’s baggage along the way. The info you provide is stored as explained below. You can ask for it to be removed.

The information I have access to is information you freely give us via email, subscriptions, comments, contact information (name), IP (internet protocol) a device’s address. If you are traveling light, it could be a smartphone if you are packing the kitchen sink. It could be a computer with a backup battery. I’m not sure about compasses but you never know (read its privacy policy).

If you want to travel solo with sunglasses totally incognito, access the contact page or unsubscribe from the link at the bottom of any email we send you. You can drop out any time if this journey isn’t for you. Adventures are different and some might not enjoy this particular cup of tea. Just let the hike leader know (via contact page).

For future trips with the traveling twins, news, and events (zoom meet and greets) we will get the word out to subscribers. There is a subscribe button onTwinnieBrooks.com. I know, I know you think you know all of this, but it bares repeating: you can opt out for any reason at any time. No worries. Please use the contact page or unsubscribe button on any update we send! We want you to feel comfortable as you travel virtually with us.

*Please note this exception: At times, we may be required by law or litigation to disclose your personal information. This can include if it is determined that for national security, by law enforcement, or other issues of public security or safety, disclosure is necessary.

Children’s Privacy Policy

Twinniebrooks.com is committed to protecting the privacy of children. This site is not intended or designed to attract children under the age of 18. NO PERSONAL INFORMATION SHOULD BE SUBMITTED OR POSTED ON TWINNIEBROOKS.COM BY INDIVIDUALS UNDER THE AGE OF 18. That is correct, eighteen years of age. You kids go have fun somewhere else. This site isn’t for you. Sorry, but come back when you are of age. Think of this site as an adult-only swimming pool, no diapers or pool floaties allowed.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

Now and then, it might become necessary to update, revise, or edit this Privacy Policy. There may be a better-updated route. We might find a typo (I just found one!); a new standard or law might go into effect. We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised date right at the top of this Privacy Policy so that you are always informed and know that we really haven’t fallen asleep at the wheel. Your continued use of this website after changes will constitute your consent to such changes in the Privacy Policy. Go back to the top of this page now and again and see if there are updates since last you visited. Yes, of course, that means you have to know when last you visited.

International Users

TwinnieBrooks.com is hosted in the United States of America. If accessing from outside of these states, and/or providing information (name, email address), you are consenting to the transfer of your information to the United States for managing and maintaining this site. If you are unclear if this Privacy Policy conflicts with privacy laws where you live, don’t submit any information (email, name, or other contact information ). It is always better when traveling to be safe rather than sorry!

Use of Cookies:

A note about cookies: We saw a video on the YouTube that gave a very brief history on cookies (no not the kind you salivate about on a backcountry trip on day four). They were created by a 24 year old in 1994. These kids continually amaze us. This website uses cookies. Http Cookies are small bits of data stored your computer. It tracts browsing history (say for example you shopped for a new pair of hiking boots on your online favorite outdoor apparel store. Then you take a break and go to social media. You will see those very hiking boots on different sites all day long! That’s the cookies at work!). Those very boots that were sold out of for your size will show up on the side bars north, south, east and west all day long. This is of course until you switch to sleeping bags. Cookies also store unique login information. Cookies remember you here so you don’t have to log in each time, if you don’t want to. Cookies are not used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. You have the ability to accept or decline cookies.

What I Collect:

We use Google Analytics. This lets us (if I spend the time) see if people are spending a good amount of time reading down to the end of this page (or how much time is spent on this page), if links are clicked, if traveling with the twins is a nice hike (videos area actually being watched). Your log in activity is unique (so you don’t get a new one each time), that allows me to see how many actual visitors travel here (website traffic, hopefully in year three the roads are heavily traveled and we find new hikes, you might need to make a reservation then). This information is collected and organized for us by Google.

Other programs on my site that collect data so the site can work:

  • CleanTalk – checks to see if visitors are spammers
  • CookiesYes – saves if you like cookies or not
  • Newsletter – your email address and name so I can write to you
  • Comments – your comment and basic information
  • WordFence – general information to make sure you are not an attack robot

We will update this list as the hiking and adventures get more strenuous.

Your data is stored indefinitely. Remember that cup of tea? If it’s not for you, unsubscribe or contact us.

In addition, one new tip, you can browse the internet incognito. Check out how to open a “new incognito window” if you don’t know how and that way you can hike without a guide.
