The Los Angeles Marathon
The race event is packed with all abilities of athletes. Walkers and runners have lots of support along the way. There is plenty of drinks, GU (an energy gel), Gatorade, and most important porta potties are available in convenient numbers. Yes, there is a red carpet…actually the finish line (i think it was the timer)
The training for the event is on your own, or with a running group. Don’t be shy, sign that check and enjoy those friendly waves on the trail, when you are still running out and the speedy runners in your weekly group run are coming back in! The coaching staff in those groups are invaluable and they know what they are doing. Mine did at least and have trained me through a lot of races. #roadrunners
Our first race together (pictured above) #twinning, not counting running tract in junior high and high school, (pictured above), was a full 26.2 miles. Now you know what all those bumper stickers mean! As you can tell, we were running neck and neck, together. Spurring each other along. Please don’t look at all the walkers. Those were probably the runners who started out too fast and hit the wall. Since this is downtown, we are nearing the end of the race.
We definitely want to encourage you to “get out there” and “challenge yourself”. Gifts are nice, but on this milestone birthday we chose an adventure that we will never forget. We still laugh at those thoughtful bystanders holding donuts out for runners on fishing poles! The group of spectators handing out wet sponges on a hot hot race day and salty pretzels! A gift is lovely of course, but an adventure is just that. You don’t easily forget them. Can you remember all your birthday gifts from the last ten years or your last ten last vacations/adventures? Save those pennies and enter a race instead! Remember your ending time doesn’t matter but the finish line does.
